Kiwisaver

If you are a First Home Buyer, you may be able to withdraw your KiwiSaver contributions to put towards your deposit. You need to have been a KiwiSaver member for at least three years and must intend to live in the property. At least $1,000 must remain in your account after withdrawal.

KiwiSaver can be used across our pathways, including on whenua Māori. We recommend confirming eligibility with your KiwiSaver provider early in the process. For more information, go to ird.govt.nz/kiwisaver

First Home Loans

Already Have a 5% Deposit?

Most lenders require a minimum 20% deposit, which can feel out of reach. A First Home Loan means you only need 5% and if that's achievable for your whānau, you may not need our assistance at all.

First Home Loans are issued by selected banks and other lenders and underwritten by Kāinga Ora, allowing lenders to approve loans that would otherwise sit outside their normal lending standards.

You have the flexibility to choose mainstream bank lending instead of Kaenga Hou to fund your mortgage. We encourage you to explore your options and find the lender that works best for your whānau.
